Parquet Tile

To make a neat little wood texture in Paint Shop Pro 6, open a new image that's 200 x 200 pixels. Use the Flood Fill tool in the Tool Palette to fill the image with a brown color (I used #93673F). Add a new Raster layer by clicking on the Layers menu and choosing New Raster Layer. In the resulting dialog box, just click OK. Flood Fill this layer with the same color so that you have a background and a layer both the same color. Click on the Image menu and choose Noise, Add. When the Add Noise dialog box opens, choose Uniform, % Of Noise 100, and click OK. Next, click on the Image menu and choose Blur, Motion Blur. In the Motion Blur dialog box, set the Blur Angle to 90 degrees and the Intensity to 40. Click OK, and you have your wood texture.
For an interesting pattern twist, try adding a special effect. Click on the Image menu and choose Deformations, Rotating Mirror. (In PSP 7, it's under Effects | Reflection Effects | Rotating Mirror) When the Rotating Mirror dialog box opens, choose 0 for the Horizontal and Vertical Offset, set the Rotation Angle to 135, and then click OK. Next, click on the Image menu and choose Mirror. Repeat the Rotating Mirror procedure, and you have a nice little parquet tile.
