ADDING FOG TO AN IMAGE

You can add fog to any image in Paint Shop Pro simply by following these steps: Open your image in Paint Shop Pro, then click on the Colors menu and choose Increase Color Depth To 16.7 Million Colors (24 Bit). If this option is grayed out, then your image is already 24 bit. Add a new raster layer to your image by clicking on the Layers menu and choosing New Raster Layer. In the resulting dialog box, leave the settings as they are and click OK. Next, click on the Foreground Color box and choose White for the foreground color. Click on the Airbrush tool in the Tool Palette. In the Tool Options Palette, the Brush Shape should be Round. The size of the brush will depend upon the size of the image. For a large image, try Brush Size 145. Set the Hardness to 0 and the Opacity to 100%. The Step size should be 25. Set the Density to 35 or less.

Click the Airbrush tool on the image and begin painting the fog. Use long horizontal strokes for a floating fog effect. Use quick clicks for more of a hanging cloud effect. Next, click on the Image menu and choose Blur, Gaussian Blur. In the resulting dialog box, set the Blur Amount to 10.00 Pixels. Now click on the Image menu and choose Effects, Drop Shadow. In the resulting dialog box, choose Black for the Shadow Color, set the Opacity to 50%, and set the Blur to 40. Finally, set the Vertical and Horizontal offsets to 1. Click OK to return to your image. For the finishing touch, click on the fog layer in the Layer Palette, and then click and drag the Opacity Slider to 75%.
